'Luchtvaartwereld'
('Aviation world') was started in 1983 on Thijs Postma's initiative.
Thanks to Henk Bink for presenting me this early copy op 'Luchtvaartwereld'.
The Dutch magazine covered both civil- as wel as military aviation, both in
news items such as above
as well as aviation history described
by the editorial team as well as by contributors. Of which I
was to become one some 10 years later.
A few items from the 1984 copy of
'Luchtvaartwereld': Fokker Aircraft Industries was
still producing aeroplanes and the Fokker 80 & Fokker 100
were offered to the operators.
The focus of the magazine was on all aspects of aviation, national items were adressed first
and international events and issues adressed further back in the magazine. The above is
a description of cargo as an industry at Amsterdam's Schiphol IAP.
The F-16 was brandnew in 1984! And KLM was recovering
from a recession... history was to repeat itself, as it always does!
The november 1993 issue, celebrating 10 years anniversary!
By sheer coincidence my sole article for
'Luchtvaartwereld' was to be published in this
anniversary issue, together with contribution by all the bigwigs in the Dutch
'world of aviation'.
Nice to note that those aviation tycoons only got one page, while I got two pages in this special edition!

This 1993 special edition of 'Luchtvaartwereld' in nov.1993 also held some articles, the Dutch
F-16s were the military subject
while a lengthy article on Airbus Industries was the civil aviation subject.
For a history article the choice had fallen on the Fokker D-XXI
The paintings by Thijs Postma are internationally renowned because of their dramatism, precision and eye for detail. Many people know Thijs from his illustrations in magazines like 'Kijk' and others. His KLM-posters and his box-art paintings for Revell, Monogram and Matchbox are widely known. He designed house-styles, like the original liveries of Martinair and Transavia aircraft. Mr Postma wrote, and illustrated, succesfull aviation books, like 'Fokker, aviation builders to the World', and he designed and edited several aviation magazines, like 'Luchtvaartwereld'. His articles on aviation history can monthly be read in 'Piloot & Vliegtuig'. His paintings adorn the walls of many prominent figures of the international aviation world. His works have been exhibited amongst others in Amsterdam, Reims, Brussels and Los Angeles. I wrote an article about a visit of mine to Shanghai's SAEC aviation museum; besides a description on which planes had been preserved here, I also explained why in those days a museum in China generally speaking was not so obvious: 'old is rubbish and has no commercial value and should be thrown out and replaced by up to date products'. And how hard it is to get to such a remote location such as this museum: besides a language problem I found a great gap of understanding and appreciation of service! |
It must have been around 1994 that 'Luchtvaartwereld' was merged with another Dutch publication: 'Piloot & Vliegtuig'
